Today I’ve been playing with this beautiful skirt and with two slightly different ways of wearing it; Turn It Up and Turn It Down.

Turn It Up

This is the loud version — you’ll make a statement wearing this! The skirt is fabulously chic with its tartan texture, volume and unsymmetrical hemline. I immediately thought of a Vivianne Westwood-esque outfit so I went for something of a punk-chic effect with the equestrian themed little jacket, the ruffle blouse and scarf, and then contrasted those with the funky hair and little hat and the somewhat kinky belt and boots.

Turn It Down

For a more classical and toned-down version, simply remove the punky and kinky details and exchange them for a sleek pair of boots, wide leather belt and a chic updo.

The holiday is over (but New Years is just around the corner!), and for many people that means it’s time to return to work. I know it’s nothing we enjoy people, but it’s a fact of life – especially if you want to buy those Lindens and be fabulous in Second Life. Today’s outfit is a dedication to all those who are going to be enjoying the pleasures of rush hour traffic today in order to sit at their office desk and wonder why they aren’t working off yesterday’s meal:

I know that Milla has mixed and match almost every outfit that she’s ever worn on this blog – and I’ve tried to do that thus far; but sometimes things are just not meant to be tampered with because they are just too perfect the way they are. Besides, who is fussing with mixing and matching the day after Christmas anyway? I’m not – I’m probably still suffering from a mild case of food coma.

I started this outfit off … with the whole outfit. Actually a men’s outfit, but it works so well for women and it’s actually one of my favorite pieces from any of the Paper Couture lines - I couldn’t resist. Besides, nothing screams “I’m a boss” like a sexy pant suit in the office. To give the look a bit of a feminine touch I’ve added a gold chain necklace with over-sized beads and Paper Couture’s famous Bumble Bee Ring. I seem to be stuck on red, perhaps a sentiment left over from the holiday – but I’ve also opted for sexy red lips and matching nails. Finally, I’ve accessorized with a very simple pair of thick framed black glasses ala Prada; which have been hugely popular for the past few years and provide a just-right level of sophistication.

*Product details and credits below the cut*

Skin: (CS) Vogue Skin – Mid Red (Bronzed)
Hair: ETD Deanna – Black
Nails: (CS) Lulu Fingernails – Dark RedEye
Glasses: (NO) Thick Emo Glasses – Nylon Pinkney (Tableau)
Outfit: p.c: European Stripes (May only be available via OnRez)
Jewelry: p.c.; River Stone Set (Earrings); P.C; Black Bead Necklace; P.C; Diamond Bee Ring
Shoes: Armidi Gisaci – Dalia Pump – Black

Does anyone ever take a glance through their inventory and just find that one thing that when it was released you told yourself you’d never take it off? I totally suffered from one of those epiphanies the other day when I rediscovered the Deanna hair from ETD. I swore when I bought this hair it would never leave my head, and then I got swept up in the whole idea of changing hairs every 5 minutes again and it was soon lost in the sea of pixels weighing down my inventory. Isn’t it perfect? It’s just perfectly casual and sophisticated and it has those wispy pieces in the front that frame the face so nicely. It’s like finding buried treasure – really.

Thanks for reading!

I haven’t done a Versatility post for ages (i.e. where I put together different looks from the same base piece). Today I’ve used the Shift dress as the base (from Last Call’s Ginny outfit), because a shift dress is an excellent basic that any style conscious Av should have in her inventory. It’s the perfect blank canvas for any look — here I offer up 4 variations for your perusal.

#1. I started with the DIVA

It’s a look for some serious partying in the trendiest of nightclubs, she is dripping in diamonds but she still has an edge. The black boa does almost all the work here, I only added sheer tights, black studded pumps and a clutch. I then went with a platinum spiky updo and smoky eyes for that edge.

LOTS more after the jump!

#2. Next we have the LADY

This classy lady is on her way to a gallery opening or dinner at a top restaurant. I swapped the boa for a little mink jacket and the diamonds for classy gold. I also covered up the neckline with a sliver of black lace. The sheer tights stayed on, but I changed the shoes to a more sleek and satiny pump. I also changed the bag to a gorgeus red crocodile piece that picks up on the red lips, the sole of the shoe and the nails. The hair is gathered in an elegant and high asymmetrical updo with sweeping bangs.

#3. Here is CUTIE

This is a more casual and daytime look, suitable pretty much anywhere. Here I’ve covered up the arms and neckline with a white blouse, changed the tights from sheer to opaque and added some cute stripy socks. The sleek pumps where exchanged for more comfortable wedges. The only accessories are a pair of cute dangely earrings, the neck scarf and the little black and white bag. The hair follows on the cute with little curly piggies and a barrette.

#4 Finally, Gritty Girl

This girl definitely has more attitude. Off came the pretty blouse and instead I wore an aviator jacket in a murky brown-red. The opaques stayed on but I changed to sloppier and dirtier socks. The boots are just so great with lots of chains and detail that I then picked up on with studded bracelets, the belt and the collar. Hair is asymmetrical, spiky and messy.

A shirt dress should be a staple in any well-dressed av’s inventory. It’s incredibly easy to wear and it’s useful for many looks and occasions. I’m wearing the Agent13 dress by Truth in these pics.

Casual Everyday

For an easy casual look I’ve simply paired it with some trendy black boots and silver or platinum jewelry. I went with big delicious hair as I find it very difficult not to add a hint of glam to my looks :) .

Dark Side

For something a little different I decided to take the dress into darker territory. Fishnets, kinky boots, leather belts and heavier jewelry did that for me. Not to mention the gorgeous make-up! To balance it all out a little, I went with perky piggies on top.

Rich make-up for the everyday look and dramatic and over the top eyes for the dark look. Product details below the cut.

This time I’ve used the beautiful empire line (or babydoll, if you prefer) Hellenas dress from Last Call for an attempt at three different looks for the same dress. I just have to say that the texture on this dress is so lush, I can almost hear the silk swoosh as I walk. It feels expensive and exclusive.

High Society. I’m thinking swanky cocktail party in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, or in London’s Belgravia.

Elegant and classy hairdo paired with diamonds set in gold. Subtle make up and high, yet classy heels. Topped off with a gold sequin clutch – which you really can’t see so well in the pic, but looks fabulous as you walk or stand around.

Rock-chic. This look has attitude and can be worn anywhere anytime.

I like the contrast of the expensive looking silk dress with a khaki military style jacket and sturdy boots. Smoky eyes and sexy hair add attitude. No accessories needed.

Romantic. This girl just fell in love and can’t think of anything but her honey.

Keeping it simple as if she just threw on the first dress she saw, gathered her hair loosely, and slipped on a pair of ballerinas. The coin jewelry work with the embellishments on the dress itself.

Here’s an example of how versatile a dress can be. The dress in this spread is from artilleri, and even though it is rather original and particular in its design, it works in many different looks.

In this first one, which I like to call rock-chic, I added a jean jacket from G.L.A.M together with fishnets from !Wrong and calf-boots from ETD. Funky braids from Gurl6 top it off perfectly.

Exchange the jean jacket for a white shrug, this one from Blaze, and add cute ballerinas (Shiny Things), and voilà – a sweet and innocent look. Hair from ETD.

Want to glam it up? Let the dress itself do all the talking. Just add some strappy heels (LC Vamp) and sexy hair. Cuff from Earthstones.

Hair by ETD and Gurl6, skin and manicure by Celestial Studios.
