Vaguely Amy

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I was listening to the brilliant Amy Winehouse when I got dressed today.

I titled the post “Vaguely Amy” as she’s truly inimitable, and I’m by no means claiming I got her style down at all.

I started the look with this beehive-ish hairdo and then continued with the black cut-out dress, opaque tights, and finished with Amy’s signature ballerinas (black, not pink, granted).

Slip Into This

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Creamy, sexy, powdery lingerie look today.

Slip Into ThisSlip Into This

I picked up this delicious slip dress at the ICING sale, and to me, it just oozes soft understated sexiness… mmmh. I wanted to keep everything within that creamy softness so I added powder pink pumps and the sexy and soft hair. Then, in order to contrast, and at the same time, underscore the lingerie feel, I added some classy, heavy pearls and the clutch, thereby taking the look out of the bedroom and into the night.

Quiet Glam

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

I called this “quiet” as despite the gold lame capris and gold metallic tights, which would ordinarily take the glam factor sky-high, the look gave me a sense of chic maturity.

Quiet GlamQuiet Glam

Maybe it’s the exquisitely textured pleated blouse or the super chic hair? I just know I’m walking around feeling oh so sophisticated. :)

I finally made it into ETD this morning! Yay! And I’m in love all over again. I re-discovered so many old favourites and some new ones I had never even considered before. ETD rocks!

My Picks for 2008 – Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!
2008

I hope you all had a very happy and safe New Year – and hopefully reading this blog while delicately nursing that miserable hang-over.  It’s crazy to think that it’s once again a whole new year – I feel like only yesterday it was the beginning of 2007 and the prospects of what the new year may bring were buzzing around the grid; and I must say – 2007 certainly did deliver in that respect, and I was not disappointed.  In today’s post I’d like to focus on some of the content creators who I think will be making a big splash in the fashion community through the course of 2008 – or at least the ones I’ll be watching for.

Most of us will have visited more than one party last night, and today’s outfit is what I like to call “the after party dress” – it’s a little edgy and funky, and extremely sexy – for those of you who made appearances all over the place, can’t be seen in the same dress twice (especially in one night!) - right?

One color that I have started to see getting picked up lately is purple; I don’t know if I would go so far as to say it will be the color of next season, but I definitely feel like a purple trend is starting – and so therefor I started this look with Shai Delacroix’s gorgeous Lilac Wine Dress.  It’s just so elegant and sexy and despite all the textures and lines in the front (and that collar, jeez), the open back is really where the party is.  To me, this dress is a perfect example of the necessary balance between sexy and classy.  I have paired it with Storm Schmooz’s latest knee high boot which is simple enough to not overpower the dress, but also provides an adequate amount of sex appeal to keep it balanced.  And finally considering the dresses collar, it was pretty difficult to find the right hair without making it seem weighed down – but after much consideration, I’ve revisited my love affair with all that is Victoria Beckham and gone once more for that super textured short bob; which I think is going to be HUGE this year in both real life and Second Life – if you don’t consider it huge already.

A Fond Farewell to 2007…

Monday, December 31st, 2007

New Years Eve is all about celebrating the coming of a new year; an event that is universal.  Often times, this marks the end of a certain chapter in people’s lives and the beginning of something new – a rebirth.  Millions of people worldwide are making their New Years resolutions, promising to forget their mistakes of the past year and move forward with a fresh outlook on the coming year.  But New Years isn’t only about forgetting the past year and moving forward – it’s about remembering the events and the people who left an imprint on your life, and taking those imprints and moving into the future with them to create a better new year and learn from the past.

2007 marked tons of milestones and changes for the world of Second Life, but in the world of Fashion, it will be remembered as none other than the year of Ginny Talamasca for me, and I’m sure many others.  Ginny ended 2006, for those who remember – with the closing of the hugely popular “Dazzle Haute Couture” store and a massive sale – and brought in the New Year with the opening of “Last Call”, creating a huge stir amongst the fashion community which has forever been changed.  Today’s outfit is a tribute to the life and contributions of Ginny Talamsca in Second Life, as well as all the real lives that he touched; sending off 2007 looking fierce and fabulous – just how Ginny would have liked it:

There is no-one on the Second Life grid who dresses a woman quite like Ginny does.  There are literally hundreds of Ginny Talamasca creations to choose from when looking for that perfect dress to wear to an evening event.  I chose this particular dress because I felt that it encompassed all that Ginny embodies in the world of fashion; beauty, glamour, and elegance with an overwhelming amount of sex appeal.  And to quote Ginny himself:  “Beauty is always in style.”

Midnight Mass

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Happy Christmas Eve! (is that even a holiday?)  I’m hoping that everyone can take today’s post with a tinge of humor, because it is not meant to be taken entirely serious.

For anyone who grew up as a “part-time” catholic, like I did – you’d know why I’m centering my outfit today around an event that happens at midnight on Christmas Eve.  Mass doesn’t just have to be for old people and bible thumpers, oh no.  Midnight Mass is and has always been for young people and families with young people more than just a gathering at church to rejoice in the birth of Christ;  It’s an opportunity to get yourself all gussied up in your fanciest conservative-wear and to walk the catwalk down the center aisle of your church and show all those kids you went to High School with (or maybe still go to High School with) just how nice you clean up.  Which brings us to today’s outfit:

Sofia “Midnight Mass” Side ViewSofia “Midnight Mass” Front View

All kidding aside, tonight is a night for all of you who observe Christmas as a holiday to rejoice in the birth of Christ; and you can’t do it in any old outfit; you throw on your Sunday’s Best and you head to church with the masses.

I started this outfit off with the Francia Woven Coat from Armidi because these trench and military style coats have been really hot this year, and I really think that Nicole David has done a wonderful job in creating an elegant and classy piece.  With all of the sculpted attachements that come with it however, it’s quite difficult to accessorize – but with an overcoat you really don’t need to; that’s the best part.  I’ve pulled together the outfit really simply with a pair of basic red pumps and a matching red headband and nailpolish.  I have also accessorized with a pair of classic pearl earrings and basic diamond ring.  Finished off with simple and light makeup and delicate curls to create a look that is both simple and classy to get you through mass without any wandering eyes looking at the wrong things when they shouldnt be.

Out Tonight

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

It’s Saturday, everyone!  The final push for weekend before a little holiday has finally paid off.  That doesnt necessarily mean that it’s time to kick off your shoes and lay back, though!  Tonight, ladies – we’re going out.  Today’s (tonight’s) outfit is really for heading out to your favorite lounge with a few of your girlfriends (or even that special someone?) for some cocktails and maybe a little dancing:

Saturday Night Feevahhh Front ViewSaturday Night Feevahhh Side View

What I’ve done here is started off with my absolute favorite mini dress to ever hit the grid by the legendary Ginny Talamasca.  The bright and bold midnight blue color (which from certain angles looks purple to me?) made it really easy to decide what would be appropriate for accompaniment; black tights.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you should know that black tights have been all the rage and by adding the black tights and those really adorable ankle boots from Armidi, I was able to turn this silky summer mini into the perfect winter frock.  I chose to accessorize with a long silver heart drop necklace from Cailyn’s with little flexi tassels that mimics the neckline in the dress quite nicely and I have also added a simple black clutch; despite the fact that purses in Second Life are hardly practical - and in reality with an outfit like this I probably would have opted for a wristlet.

To give this look a little edge, I’ve finished it off with long wavy hair with super cute fringe bangs and makeup with a very smoky white highlight under the eye.

Saturday Night Feevahhh Headshot

Also, let me just add – because I haven’t seen this floating around the Fashion Planet feed:  I am so glad that G.L.A.M. is back – apparently it’s been back for a while but I had no idea!  The black tights in this outfit are from one of the many new outfits available on the G.L.A.M.sim, so I am including the SLURL to the new place for everyone to go check out.

Pink Party

Friday, December 14th, 2007

It’s Friday night and I always want to party.

Pink PartyPink Party

So, it is no secret that I’m a huge fan of Digit Darkes (previously known as X3D), so I can only conclude that Sasy Scarborough (who works for DD) knew exactly what she was doing when she dropped this fabulous dress on me (in my favourite pink, no less). Well, whatever Sasy had in mind, it worked — I LOVE this dress! It’s pink, its unusual and it rocks! It is very high fashion with a prim skirt that moves in fabulous ways — you really have to see it! In order to also make it sexy (to our male admirers) I added the black leather collar and wristbands and the sexy hair-do. This was also the perfect opportunity to wear a pair of pink pumps and look good.

Sassy Sunday

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

I’m in a party mood tonight.

Sassy SundaySassy Sunday

So, I wanted something sassy and sexy for today and I must have tried on everything in black in my Inventory — I just couldn’t make up my mind! I finally settled on this gorgeous blouse (which is actually the top of a dress) and a classic black mini-skirt with knee-high boots. This should do it!

Super-sexy hair (one of my old all-time ETD favourites) and super-smoky eyes finishes this look.

Glam Time

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

I realised I haven’t done a glam look in ages; so here we go!

Glam TimeGlam Time

These are new releases from Digit Darkes (my glam provider of choice) — we have the fabulous shrug, sequin top (under which I layered a tank for some stomach cover) and the black pants. I added silver pumps and large earrings. Also, take a look at the little fan — as an accessory whore I LOVE it! It comes with a fanning animation as well.
