Things To Love

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Here is one of those super chic looks I like so much, that I put it together using some very special pieces that I immediately loved.

Things To LoveThings To Love

Starting with the fabulous sweater dress from Ce Cubic Effect — I had been reading about the shop for a while (from Sofia no less) but didn’t get myself over there until the other day; and that was not a minute too soon. The sculptie work on this dress is something I’ve never seen before; the skirt, the collar and the sleeves melt perfectly into the underlying clothes layers and just gives it this unique and truly 3D effect. The cut of the dress is also superb — I especially love the unsymmetrical hemline and the short sleeves; the latter very prominent in RL fashions this season. I dressed it with opaque tights, long gloves, a black t-shirt and a belt in the waist for a wintry city look.

Next on my love list are these sunglasses — perfection! Again, I had read about them for months on the blogs but didn’t actually get them until yesterday and now I don’t ever want to take them off! Perfect size, perfect shape, perfect reflections… *sigh*

Things To Love

Last, but definitely not least, this hair! It’s so Katie Holmes and so “right now”; and ETD has had it for ages! I happened across it by accident as I was systematically picking up all the hairstyles I didn’t already own at the sale — what a lovely surprise indeed. :)

Casual Leathers

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Here’s a combination of two current favourites of mine.

Casual LeathersCasual Leathers

It’s the leather Bomber jacket (with a great hoody) and the superb brown casual boots that Sofia found the other day. The Bomber is another product out of Muism and yet again they prove to me to be one of the top jacket designers on the grid. I combined it with a white turtleneck sweater (on the Shirt layer and system Underpants in white to cover the gap between jacket and jeans) and really skinny dark jeans, which together with the boots make for a warm and cosy winter’s day look. I also added a white bag for a little lightness. This is something I would typically wear on a normal day in RL.

A word on the bling in the boots: I had lots of trouble removing the bling script and replacing it with a “no bling script” to make it actually stop — but that is very likely due to my clumsiness with prim-manipulations (the script sits in the lower buckle on each boot). I also wanted to give you the link to an article over on Second Style Fashionista with a free “no bling” script offered by Celebrity Trollop – Click Here. It’s not always enough to remove the bling script, you have to replace it with one of these to make it really stop.

“Model” Citizen

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Today will be my last day blogging with MichaMi, and before I depart I wish to impose upon you all a small bit of my infinite wisdom; this time on the world of modeling both in real life and in Second Life.  Today’s outfit is inspired by the idea of the blank canvas, anyone who has any real life modeling experience, watches any of the Top Model shows, or has any has any sense of what a blank canvas means in the world of fashion – should understand where I am going here:

All kidding and humor aside, I have brought you all some of my favorite and fiercest outfits from my arsenal of clothing in Second Life, but for my final post today – I hoped to introduce you to the side of me that you would most see if you were to bump into me on the grid today.  While I don’t necessarily consider myself a model in Second Life, I do take work from time to time when it is offered to me.  The smartest thing, in my opinion – that a model can do when seeking out work is to present themselves as a blank canvas.  For this outfit, I have taken a very basic white tank and paired it with a classic pair of dark jeans.  The jewelry is very simple, casual, and understated – the shoes are trendy and classy, but not flamboyant – and my hair is simply pulled back to from my face nicely without looking like I spent an hour trying to do it.  I have tried to keep the entire look very natural without looking forced which something that I try to accomplish in every outfit I wear anyway.

My only other advice is: Go with what you know.  The Ether/Void skin from Starley and Ginny’s Deviant Nation line of skins is the skin that I built my shape for and when I am trying to put my best face forward, it is for sure the most accurate way that I wish to portray myself.  Dressing yourself doesn’t always have to be about noise and excess.  Sometimes even the most simple pieces of clothing can project “confident” and “sexy” while also saying “effortless” – which to me is the best message of all.

Ain’t No Other …

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Everyone has someone that they idolize stylistically in both Second Life and real life, whether they want to admit it or not.  There has rarely been an occasion in my life where I’ve met someone and said “Damn, they really -do- march to the beat of their own drum… don’t they?” – every facet of fashion has it’s “face” – making it nearly impossible to do something that’s really never been done before.  Obviously one of the most popular sources for inspiration when it comes to style of dress is media and popular culture – and for me one person (of the hundreds) that I’ve always idolized stylistically is Christina Aguilera – or at least since her “Stripped” era;  As I’ve said before – I think that raunchy can still be stylish.

My second outfit for today is inspired entirely by an outfit Christina wears in her “Ain’t No Other Man” video for a few short sequences – I’ve obviously however put a small twist on it to make it more appropriate for wearing out:

Since it’s fairly obvious that my normal skin-tone of Bronze looks pretty bad with blond hair, I actually started this look out by switching over to RaC’s Tasha skin – which I’m sure you’ve seen on at least every other blog in the Fashion Planet feed by now.  The soft skin tone for me worked much better with blond locks – and also, a minor detail — the red lips seem to work much better for the Tasha skin than any of the others that I seem to own;  No Christina Aguilera look is complete without red lips.  I’ve replaced the ruffled panties from the video with a pair of satin white shorts and instead of using a sheer over-sized sweater, I’ve used a rich red sweater with a deep neckline and a 3/4 sleeve (I had to tint it red myself).  I’ve finished off the look with one of my favorite hairstyles from Elikapeka Tiramisu’s AVEDA line that gives this look the perfect ‘vintage/retro‘ feel that Christina Aguilera’s current style seems to be so strongly attached to – and a very basic white heel.  As far as accessories go, I’ve used a simple chain with ballet slipper charms and the retro style headphones that complete the over-all look.

Business as Usual

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007

The holiday is over (but New Years is just around the corner!), and for many people that means it’s time to return to work.  I know it’s nothing we enjoy people, but it’s a fact of life – especially if you want to buy those Lindens and be fabulous in Second Life.  Today’s outfit is a dedication to all those who are going to be enjoying the pleasures of rush hour traffic today in order to sit at their office desk and wonder why they aren’t working off yesterday’s meal:

I know that Milla has mixed and match almost every outfit that she’s ever worn on this blog – and I’ve tried to do that thus far; but sometimes things are just not meant to be tampered with because they are just too perfect the way they are.  Besides, who is fussing with mixing and matching the day after Christmas anyway?  I’m not – I’m probably still suffering from a mild case of food coma.

I started this outfit off … with the whole outfit.  Actually a men’s outfit, but it works so well for women and it’s actually one of my favorite pieces from any of the Paper Couture lines - I couldn’t resist.  Besides, nothing screams “I’m a boss” like a sexy pant suit in the office.  To give the look a bit of a feminine touch I’ve added a gold chain necklace with over-sized beads and Paper Couture’s famous Bumble Bee Ring.  I seem to be stuck on red, perhaps a sentiment left over from the holiday – but I’ve also opted for sexy red lips and matching nails.  Finally, I’ve accessorized with a very simple pair of thick framed black glasses ala Prada; which have been hugely popular for the past few years and provide a just-right level of sophistication.

Out Tonight

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

It’s Saturday, everyone!  The final push for weekend before a little holiday has finally paid off.  That doesnt necessarily mean that it’s time to kick off your shoes and lay back, though!  Tonight, ladies – we’re going out.  Today’s (tonight’s) outfit is really for heading out to your favorite lounge with a few of your girlfriends (or even that special someone?) for some cocktails and maybe a little dancing:

Saturday Night Feevahhh Front ViewSaturday Night Feevahhh Side View

What I’ve done here is started off with my absolute favorite mini dress to ever hit the grid by the legendary Ginny Talamasca.  The bright and bold midnight blue color (which from certain angles looks purple to me?) made it really easy to decide what would be appropriate for accompaniment; black tights.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you should know that black tights have been all the rage and by adding the black tights and those really adorable ankle boots from Armidi, I was able to turn this silky summer mini into the perfect winter frock.  I chose to accessorize with a long silver heart drop necklace from Cailyn’s with little flexi tassels that mimics the neckline in the dress quite nicely and I have also added a simple black clutch; despite the fact that purses in Second Life are hardly practical - and in reality with an outfit like this I probably would have opted for a wristlet.

To give this look a little edge, I’ve finished it off with long wavy hair with super cute fringe bangs and makeup with a very smoky white highlight under the eye.

Also, let me just add – because I haven’t seen this floating around the Fashion Planet feed:  I am so glad that G.L.A.M. is back – apparently it’s been back for a while but I had no idea!  The black tights in this outfit are from one of the many new outfits available on the G.L.A.M.sim, so I am including the SLURL to the new place for everyone to go check out.

Biker Bits and 8 Things

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Picking up on recent biker trends in RL fashions.

Biker BitsBiker Bits

The little biker jacket started me off today – I like how it’s short and how the sleeves are 3/4 length. I combined it with a pair of gray striped trousers for a city-slick feel and then injected some colour with layered tops and matching shoes.

Loving Nudes

Monday, November 26th, 2007

I find myself drawn to soft and buttery nude colours lately, and I’ve been living in this everyday chic outfit for the last two days.

Loving NudesLoving Nudes

This lace top went straight to my number one position for current favourites — the colour is buttery, the texturing is divine, the design is super versatile and it comes in all possible layers — you’re going to be seeing it featured in many a future look on this blog. I’m also really loving these delicate yet high stiletto heels; they’re so feminine. With all these delicate colours and textures going on, I wanted something of a contrast so I opted for the distressed skinny jeans. I accessorised with gold chains around the hips and neck and then for a splash of colour with the red saddle bag.

Truth is turning out some really good hairs lately — this one is the Dakota in Honey.

Zebra Ztyle

Friday, November 16th, 2007

Some everyday chic with a zebra flavour.

Zebra ZtyleZebra Ztyle

I have a pair of dark skinny jeans with a beautifully textured tunic as the base. I then scattered the zebra accents throughout the shoes, the bangles and the large bag. I also added the gloves and the black side-tie belt for a little bit of chicness.

Sexy and lush hair to finish off.
