New Constructions

Friday, February 8th, 2008

I’m testing out two new (to me) constructions today; sculpted dress and textured hair.

New ConstructionsNew Constructions

I’ve seen some fully sculpted dresses around lately, but had not felt convinced that they would be nice. You see, I love movement in my clothes, so flexi prims are big favourites (sculpted prims cannot be made flexi). However, I like this dress! The sculpties allow for this gorgeous balloon/tulip shape that would not be possible (at least I think not!) with normal prims. Of course, this brilliant red colour does nothing to hurt it’s appeal.

The second new thing is what I call “textured” hair, granted this is not new, however, when they first appeared on the grid, I was very put-off by the overlapping alphas which made it flicker incessantly. Well, that is all gone now, and I have to say, I’m completely in love with this over-the-top, fabulous do, in fact I don’t ever want to take it off!

In conclusion, two big thumbs up from me for both of these new technical advances.

Vaguely Amy

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

I was listening to the brilliant Amy Winehouse when I got dressed today.

Vaguely AmyVaguely Amy

I titled the post “Vaguely Amy” as she’s truly inimitable, and I’m by no means claiming I got her style down at all.

I started the look with this beehive-ish hairdo and then continued with the black cut-out dress, opaque tights, and finished with Amy’s signature ballerinas (black, not pink, granted).

I accessorised with some funky jewelry in black and gold.

Slip Into This

Creamy, sexy, powdery lingerie look today.

Slip Into ThisSlip Into This

I picked up this delicious slip dress at the ICING sale, and to me, it just oozes soft understated sexiness… mmmh. I wanted to keep everything within that creamy softness so I added powder pink pumps and the sexy and soft hair. Then, in order to contrast, and at the same time, underscore the lingerie feel, I added some classy, heavy pearls and the clutch, thereby taking the look out of the bedroom and into the night.

Spoiled Brat

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Today I’ve gone completely over the top — and I really loved it! You can blame Sofia and her Gossip Girl post ! My inspiration was Blair Waldorf from that very addictive TV series — for those of you who have not yet seen it, Blair is a super rich bitch from Manhattan’s swanky Upper East side, who rules the private school she goes to.

I was aiming for the look of a sexy school girl with a serious shopping budget. I started with the little chic jacket in a rose pink and then added the short, white skirt and the low-cut camisole for that feel of sexy girlieness (white is also a big colour this winter season). I also covered up the arms in a white undershirt. Next I went with classic knee high socks and these gorgeous gorgeous chunky pumps in a pale pink, which together with the hat and scarf gave that school girl feel. To finish, I added a long strand of white pearls and a funky little clutch.

Ray of Light

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

Here’s a little ray of light in the winter gloom for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere and a sunny daytime look for those of you lucky enough to inhabit the Southern Half of the RL globe.

Ray of LightRay of Light

There’s nothing like yellow to brighten your day and this little dress certainly does the job. I added a pair of leggings and then accessorised with different pinks in the hair, bangles, nails and bag.

I also wanted to show you these sculptie shoes from Periquita: the shape of the shoe is perfect — I particularly like the delicate sliver of a platform under the toes — and the heel, although not as high as I usually like them, is well shaped and feminine. The texturing is also very good indeed. The designer, Erpla Prieto, is also a Swedish gal so this makes it extra special to me. :) Thanks for the introduction Sofia!

I’m still in my revived ETD crush and this is Honey, an old favourite of mine.

Winter Bunny

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

All bundled up and ready for a snowball fight!

Winter BunnyWinter Bunny

You just have to look at this hat — what exquisite sculptie work! And the texturing… just wow (click on the thumbnail further down for a close up view). I wore ETD’s Hailey under the hat with some modified strands to make it a perfect fit.

Starting from the hat, I went with the obvious winter bunny look and paired it with this sweater that has a similar pattern (but with funky skulls instead of snow flakes). Then, for a girlie and feminine touch, I wore this wonderful full-length skirt in an off-white colour. My feet are comfortably snug in a pair of black winter boots.

I accessorised with a thick scarf and matching mittens.

Glam For Gloom

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I got really tired of looking at the gloomy grey skies in RL of late and decided to exchange the RL gloom for some SL glam!

Glam For GloomGlam For Gloom

Unfortunately, today is a perfectly normal Tuesday with nothing fabulous on the agenda that would justify my need for glam, so I opted for a daytime look instead. This little gold sequinned number suited my purposes perfectly; its glam yet it has an element of sweetness with the cute silk ribbon around the hips and the demure neckline. In order to mitigate the super-mini skirt I simply added opaque black tights and then echoed the black on the arms as well. I finished by sticking my feet in a pair of chunky sandals, also in black to kind of “close the circle”.

Chunkier winter sandals are prevalent in RL fashion just now (perfect for stocking-glad feet) and I would LOVE to see some SL versions from our talented shoe designers. I’m wearing the Lolas from Shiny Things, one of my all-time favourites, and they are still the only ones out there as far as I could tell. I’m thinking heavier leather straps, perhaps some studs and definitely a small platform. Please! Pretty Please! :)

Back In Business

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

I’m back in-world again and very happy to be so! My break was well-timed as spending some time away has refreshed my obsession love for Second Life and I feel full of inspiration and ideas again.

Here we are then, with the hustle and bustle of the holidays safely behind us for another year and back to business as usual. I’ve been whizzing around the grid updating myself on all the goodies that were released while I was gone — and oh how I loved it! (should take breakes more often). :)
Today’s look was for doing all of that “dirty work”, so it’s funky, functional and a little girlie.

Back In BusinessBack In Business

This brown plaid dress was perfect for my purposes, although I modified it a little by removing a layer of prims on the skirt to make it less pouffy (I simply shrank each prim to minimal size until it was no longer visible). I paired it with white leggings and a white shirt for a daytime feel and then accessorised with funky and bulky bangles, my beloved horn earrings and a little chunky gold-brown chain around my neck. I stuck my feet in these gorgeous ankle boots that I seem to come back to all the time lately.

Back In Business
I wanted some freshness too so I opted for this high pony tail with the cute bangs for a clean and girlie feel.

Ain’t No Other …

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Everyone has someone that they idolize stylistically in both Second Life and real life, whether they want to admit it or not.  There has rarely been an occasion in my life where I’ve met someone and said “Damn, they really -do- march to the beat of their own drum… don’t they?” – every facet of fashion has it’s “face” – making it nearly impossible to do something that’s really never been done before.  Obviously one of the most popular sources for inspiration when it comes to style of dress is media and popular culture – and for me one person (of the hundreds) that I’ve always idolized stylistically is Christina Aguilera – or at least since her “Stripped” era;  As I’ve said before – I think that raunchy can still be stylish.

My second outfit for today is inspired entirely by an outfit Christina wears in her “Ain’t No Other Man” video for a few short sequences – I’ve obviously however put a small twist on it to make it more appropriate for wearing out:

Since it’s fairly obvious that my normal skin-tone of Bronze looks pretty bad with blond hair, I actually started this look out by switching over to RaC’s Tasha skin – which I’m sure you’ve seen on at least every other blog in the Fashion Planet feed by now.  The soft skin tone for me worked much better with blond locks – and also, a minor detail — the red lips seem to work much better for the Tasha skin than any of the others that I seem to own;  No Christina Aguilera look is complete without red lips.  I’ve replaced the ruffled panties from the video with a pair of satin white shorts and instead of using a sheer over-sized sweater, I’ve used a rich red sweater with a deep neckline and a 3/4 sleeve (I had to tint it red myself).  I’ve finished off the look with one of my favorite hairstyles from Elikapeka Tiramisu’s AVEDA line that gives this look the perfect ‘vintage/retro‘ feel that Christina Aguilera’s current style seems to be so strongly attached to – and a very basic white heel.  As far as accessories go, I’ve used a simple chain with ballet slipper charms and the retro style headphones that complete the over-all look.

Tweet Tweet*

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

In my last post I mentioned quite a few “japanese” designers in my picks for 2008 – we all know that in the past year their presence has been felt very strongly across the grid, bringing some of the most unique and colorful designs that we had ever seen.  However, *Tweet* by Sumire Mochi is one store that has actually been around for quite some time – bringing a unique and colorful flavor to anyone’s wardrobe daring enough to wear it.   Today’s outfit is completely inspired by Sumire’s colorful and intricate work, and it is also the very first outfit that I ever modeled for someone, making it very near and dear to my little fashion-bleeding heart:

Sofia “Tweet” Front ViewSofia “Tweet” Back View

One of my very first memorable experiences in Second Life was modeling for Second Style Fashionista sometime during my first few weeks on the grid (on my first avatar, Sofia being my second).  The job just happened to fall into my lap while sitting in my favorite spot to loiter – the boardwalk of Tableau.  I had just by chance met Sumire while she was constructing the prim skirt to this outfit in a quite unique way, hanging from the spit over the volcano to “use the light” -so  she had said and later that day, she handed me the dress.  Within moments Choice Sliter was asking if I’d mind modeling it for her blog and it was all very exciting and fresh and new – perhaps my first taste of Second Life’s infamous fashion industry.  Today’s look – discounting the hair and skin, is the exact outfit that I modeled for Second Style Fashionista over a year ago.  Sumire’s Miyoko dress and arm warmers, which I have paired with matching white leg warmers (which was so popular last fall…) and white flip flops.  At the time I had worn Lash Xevious’ “Peaches” hair, but since Lash has long since removed her shop of gorgeously sculpted hairstyles – I’ve updated it with this funky and cute pigtail style hair from ETD.  Of course I have stuck with my signature skin from the Vogue series, however if this were back then it would have been Toast Bard’s “Tomboy” skin.  Overall this is a look that has more of a personal meaning to me, however I feel that it is very relevant today - especially to anyone who is looking to explore their inner “Japanese” style, take risks, and try something new.
