Urban Chick

Monday, February 4th, 2008

I’ve had these over-knee boots for a while and I’ve been wanting to wear them, but I never managed a look that didn’t look just trashy. So, today I experimented with an urban, rock-chic version and I think the boots come out looking good.

I wanted a tiny leather jacket with a large sweater underneath and, oh my was that difficult! This little biker jacket here was perfect and caused no problem; the trouble started with finding something longer that was NOT on the Jacket Layer — eventually (after a lot of testing, fiddling and hair pulling) I went with this sweater on the Shirt Layer and a piece from a Camie Cooper Tee on the Pants Layer (God bless Camie Cooper, the queen of providing ALL layers) to cover the midriff part. Granted, the midriff part is not in the same colour as the sweater, but I actually kind of like the contrast. Finally, the sweater I used, came with this prim bottom attachment that was perfect for that big loose feeling I wanted. I continued with black pants (on the Underpant layer) and then added a beret just because it felt right.

Oh dear, I hope all that was not too confusing! A disclaimer: the bottom prim part of the sweater was actually really hard to make fit perfectly (I never managed a perfect fit), so if you prefer, just skip it for less of a headache.

Slip Into This

Creamy, sexy, powdery lingerie look today.

I picked up this delicious slip dress at the ICING sale, and to me, it just oozes soft understated sexiness… mmmh. I wanted to keep everything within that creamy softness so I added powder pink pumps and the sexy and soft hair. Then, in order to contrast, and at the same time, underscore the lingerie feel, I added some classy, heavy pearls and the clutch, thereby taking the look out of the bedroom and into the night.

Asian Chic

Here’s a little chic Asian number I randomly picked up yesterday at Y&H.

I liked the black and pink-red texture and I also liked the chic cut of it, however, it’s constructed using the system skirt. I know many of you are able to really rock the system skirt but I just plain can’t stand it on myself — the ugly shape (even with a tweaked body-shape), the gap at the waist, the way it stretches the texture…. suffice it to say I’m not a fan. Having just said all that though, every once in a while I do pick one up and wear it quite happily, and this is such an exception. Maybe it’s the vivid texture that masks many of the imperfections? Still, I can’t help thinking that even though it is a fine dress in its current version, it would have been divine with a little hip-hugging prim skirt and glitch pants.

Gotta’ Love G.L.A.M.

Friday, February 1st, 2008

I was shopping in GLAM the other day when I realised that I own about 95% of their entire collection and that I use some piece from GLAM in many, many of my looks — there’s a reason for that.

They seem to quietly churn out high-quality clothes without much pomp and fanfare. However, what comes out of their design studio is of the highest standard with regards to textures, prims, design and construction. They understand colour and they provide their garments on every conceivable layer — thus making them a gold mine for a mixer & matcher like myself. To top it all off; their prices are extremely competitive, making it possible to buy every single piece you fall in love with (i.e. my 95%).

I’m wearing the Dark Denim Jumpsuit “straight out of the box” together with these oh-so-sexy white boots.

A word on my hair; it’s from another Japanese designer who understands blonde textures — Tukinowaguma Hair — very exciting with all these new options for us picky fair heads!
