Glam For Gloom

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

I got really tired of looking at the gloomy grey skies in RL of late and decided to exchange the RL gloom for some SL glam!

Glam For GloomGlam For Gloom

Unfortunately, today is a perfectly normal Tuesday with nothing fabulous on the agenda that would justify my need for glam, so I opted for a daytime look instead. This little gold sequinned number suited my purposes perfectly; its glam yet it has an element of sweetness with the cute silk ribbon around the hips and the demure neckline. In order to mitigate the super-mini skirt I simply added opaque black tights and then echoed the black on the arms as well. I finished by sticking my feet in a pair of chunky sandals, also in black to kind of “close the circle”.

Chunkier winter sandals are prevalent in RL fashion just now (perfect for stocking-glad feet) and I would LOVE to see some SL versions from our talented shoe designers. I’m wearing the Lolas from Shiny Things, one of my all-time favourites, and they are still the only ones out there as far as I could tell. I’m thinking heavier leather straps, perhaps some studs and definitely a small platform. Please! Pretty Please! :)

Bond Street

Monday, January 7th, 2008

This is my take on the old money elegance that permeates the very fashionable Bond Street in London.

Bond StreetBond Street

The olive colour and the cut of this little jacket was just perfect for that “old money” feel. I paired it with these high-waisted city shorts and opaque stockings for an elegant yet modern twist, and I finished with a pair of deliciously creamy pumps that match the shorts. I kept my accessories classy with this fabulous shoulder brooch, pearl earrings and a classic chic handbag.

To contrast the slightly stiff upper-class look, I opted for this unsymmetrical and spiky updo to make it more interesting.

Casual Leathers

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Here’s a combination of two current favourites of mine.

Casual LeathersCasual Leathers

It’s the leather Bomber jacket (with a great hoody) and the superb brown casual boots that Sofia found the other day. The Bomber is another product out of Muism and yet again they prove to me to be one of the top jacket designers on the grid. I combined it with a white turtleneck sweater (on the Shirt layer and system Underpants in white to cover the gap between jacket and jeans) and really skinny dark jeans, which together with the boots make for a warm and cosy winter’s day look. I also added a white bag for a little lightness. This is something I would typically wear on a normal day in RL.

A word on the bling in the boots: I had lots of trouble removing the bling script and replacing it with a “no bling script” to make it actually stop — but that is very likely due to my clumsiness with prim-manipulations (the script sits in the lower buckle on each boot). I also wanted to give you the link to an article over on Second Style Fashionista with a free “no bling” script offered by Celebrity Trollop – Click Here. It’s not always enough to remove the bling script, you have to replace it with one of these to make it really stop.

Back In Business

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

I’m back in-world again and very happy to be so! My break was well-timed as spending some time away has refreshed my obsession love for Second Life and I feel full of inspiration and ideas again.

Here we are then, with the hustle and bustle of the holidays safely behind us for another year and back to business as usual. I’ve been whizzing around the grid updating myself on all the goodies that were released while I was gone — and oh how I loved it! (should take breakes more often). :)
Today’s look was for doing all of that “dirty work”, so it’s funky, functional and a little girlie.

This brown plaid dress was perfect for my purposes, although I modified it a little by removing a layer of prims on the skirt to make it less pouffy (I simply shrank each prim to minimal size until it was no longer visible). I paired it with white leggings and a white shirt for a daytime feel and then accessorised with funky and bulky bangles, my beloved horn earrings and a little chunky gold-brown chain around my neck. I stuck my feet in these gorgeous ankle boots that I seem to come back to all the time lately.

I wanted some freshness too so I opted for this high pony tail with the cute bangs for a clean and girlie feel.

I couldn’t help mysef – I know I said I was going, but it wouldnt be fair of me to not share this recent discovery by my friend Bethany Heart with all the MichaMi readers.  I know you all probobly have the same fetish for footwear that I do – so I hope you all wont be too dissapointed with me sharing.  Anyway, it seems that Bethany has discovered some new shoes, and let me be the first to publically say: fabulous.  The store is called Kittie’s Lair by Babette Ultsch and she offers a range of clothing and sculpted shoes and hats – we decided to give you just a small taste of what’s available.

Bethany (on the left) is modeling one pair of the boots, which are a bit more casual and also feature a super trendy banana heel while I (obviously on the right) went for something a bit more dramatic in a black stiletto fetish-styled heel.  If you share the same love of shoes as Bethany and I, then may I strongly reccomend that you head on over to Kittie’s Lair and try a pair on?

“Model” Citizen

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Today will be my last day blogging with MichaMi, and before I depart I wish to impose upon you all a small bit of my infinite wisdom; this time on the world of modeling both in real life and in Second Life.  Today’s outfit is inspired by the idea of the blank canvas, anyone who has any real life modeling experience, watches any of the Top Model shows, or has any has any sense of what a blank canvas means in the world of fashion – should understand where I am going here:

All kidding and humor aside, I have brought you all some of my favorite and fiercest outfits from my arsenal of clothing in Second Life, but for my final post today – I hoped to introduce you to the side of me that you would most see if you were to bump into me on the grid today.  While I don’t necessarily consider myself a model in Second Life, I do take work from time to time when it is offered to me.  The smartest thing, in my opinion – that a model can do when seeking out work is to present themselves as a blank canvas.  For this outfit, I have taken a very basic white tank and paired it with a classic pair of dark jeans.  The jewelry is very simple, casual, and understated – the shoes are trendy and classy, but not flamboyant – and my hair is simply pulled back to from my face nicely without looking like I spent an hour trying to do it.  I have tried to keep the entire look very natural without looking forced which something that I try to accomplish in every outfit I wear anyway.

My only other advice is: Go with what you know.  The Ether/Void skin from Starley and Ginny’s Deviant Nation line of skins is the skin that I built my shape for and when I am trying to put my best face forward, it is for sure the most accurate way that I wish to portray myself.  Dressing yourself doesn’t always have to be about noise and excess.  Sometimes even the most simple pieces of clothing can project “confident” and “sexy” while also saying “effortless” – which to me is the best message of all.

Ain’t No Other …

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Everyone has someone that they idolize stylistically in both Second Life and real life, whether they want to admit it or not.  There has rarely been an occasion in my life where I’ve met someone and said “Damn, they really -do- march to the beat of their own drum… don’t they?” – every facet of fashion has it’s “face” – making it nearly impossible to do something that’s really never been done before.  Obviously one of the most popular sources for inspiration when it comes to style of dress is media and popular culture – and for me one person (of the hundreds) that I’ve always idolized stylistically is Christina Aguilera – or at least since her “Stripped” era;  As I’ve said before – I think that raunchy can still be stylish.

My second outfit for today is inspired entirely by an outfit Christina wears in her “Ain’t No Other Man” video for a few short sequences – I’ve obviously however put a small twist on it to make it more appropriate for wearing out:

Sofia “Aint No Other” Front ViewSofia “Aint No Other” Side View

Since it’s fairly obvious that my normal skin-tone of Bronze looks pretty bad with blond hair, I actually started this look out by switching over to RaC’s Tasha skin – which I’m sure you’ve seen on at least every other blog in the Fashion Planet feed by now.  The soft skin tone for me worked much better with blond locks – and also, a minor detail — the red lips seem to work much better for the Tasha skin than any of the others that I seem to own;  No Christina Aguilera look is complete without red lips.  I’ve replaced the ruffled panties from the video with a pair of satin white shorts and instead of using a sheer over-sized sweater, I’ve used a rich red sweater with a deep neckline and a 3/4 sleeve (I had to tint it red myself).  I’ve finished off the look with one of my favorite hairstyles from Elikapeka Tiramisu’s AVEDA line that gives this look the perfect ‘vintage/retro‘ feel that Christina Aguilera’s current style seems to be so strongly attached to – and a very basic white heel.  As far as accessories go, I’ve used a simple chain with ballet slipper charms and the retro style headphones that complete the over-all look.

Being fierce for a cause…

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Last time I checked, the statistics stated that at least 1 in 4 people will be affected by Breast Cancer at some point or another in their life;  statistics like that should be quite scary for everyone, not just women.  I appologize for the spam today as this will mark my second of 3 posts that I have ready to go, but after hearing about this I felt that it was something I should share.

In an attempt to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Iris Seale of Punch Drunk has released a pink limited edition version of her latest (and best if you ask me) work - Glam Rock –  in both of her stores on the grid.  Her goal is to sell 100 copies of the dress and to donate 100% of the proceeds to a foundation whose work has benefitted breast cancer research for years.  The price of the dress is 500 Linden (which is the equivilant of about 2$) and it  really is absolutely gorgeous – the texture work is fabulous – and let’s just face it, what girl doesnt love to glitter and shine?

And for those of you who are not wishing to purchase this item to donate – you can find out more information on the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and any other information on how else you can help by going here: www.komen.org

In the spirit of all that is the MichaMi Style blog, I have included a snapshot of part of the dress mixed and matched with some of my other favorite things to create a completely different, but equally fabulous look:

… late night … booty calls - SHINY DISCO BALLS….

And I’m sure that the majority of people reading this have no idea what the hell the title and start of this blog post are referring to – but if you do, good for you.  As I mentioned yesterday, there will actually be two blog posts today – and they both follow one theme:  Music.

Music is something that I find universally inspires everyone – like a muse; go figure.  Ever since Milla had given me the oppurtunity to blog on MichaMi I have been bugging my good friend Catero Revolution to do a blog post with me – why? Because he’s just so stylish and sexy – I mean let’s face it, Catero’s got good taste – and his avatar always looks delicious.  Soo… long story short, after a little poking and proding, he finally agreed to do one with me – so long as it involved one thing: Disco.

Not being a huge fan of the Disco era, or at least not having an extremely comprehensive knowledge of the era – it did take a little convincing – however, I like the Scissor Sisters and having a good time every now and then… so… I’ll go with it:

Sofia and Catero “Disco” View OneSofia and Catero “Disco” View Two

As soon as Catero showed up to take the pictures in his outfit, I knew I had to do something that was a bit more simple; when you’re dressing as a couple – you dont want it to seem as though you’re competing with each other for the spotlight.  Piecing this together was fairly simple in many respects, but it took some serious digging through my landmark library to actually find something that would work.  I started with a bob with some razor sharp angles and bangs, very Cleopatra-esque.  From there I simply went for a bright strapless jumper with the most rediculously bright belt I could find… glitter and highly saturated colors – check.  I finished off my whole look with a pair of basic metalic pumps and for fear of overdoing it anymore than we already had, I left it at that.  Oh, and let’s not forget that strong cat-eye makeup as well…

How Catero came up with his look?  It probobly involved some mushrooms and a darklight, that’s all I can say.
