A Fond Farewell to 2007…

December 31st, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Chic, Fashion, Formal, Glam, Looks, Nighttime, Sexy

New Years Eve is all about celebrating the coming of a new year; an event that is universal.  Often times, this marks the end of a certain chapter in people’s lives and the beginning of something new - a rebirth.  Millions of people worldwide are making their New Years resolutions, promising to forget their mistakes of the past year and move forward with a fresh outlook on the coming year.  But New Years isn’t only about forgetting the past year and moving forward - it’s about remembering the events and the people who left an imprint on your life, and taking those imprints and moving into the future with them to create a better new year and learn from the past.

2007 marked tons of milestones and changes for the world of Second Life, but in the world of Fashion, it will be remembered as none other than the year of Ginny Talamasca for me, and I’m sure many others.  Ginny ended 2006, for those who remember - with the closing of the hugely popular “Dazzle Haute Couture” store and a massive sale - and brought in the New Year with the opening of “Last Call”, creating a huge stir amongst the fashion community which has forever been changed.  Today’s outfit is a tribute to the life and contributions of Ginny Talamsca in Second Life, as well as all the real lives that he touched; sending off 2007 looking fierce and fabulous - just how Ginny would have liked it:

There is no-one on the Second Life grid who dresses a woman quite like Ginny does.  There are literally hundreds of Ginny Talamasca creations to choose from when looking for that perfect dress to wear to an evening event.  I chose this particular dress because I felt that it encompassed all that Ginny embodies in the world of fashion; beauty, glamour, and elegance with an overwhelming amount of sex appeal.  And to quote Ginny himself:  “Beauty is always in style.”

Introducing: Sofia Beckham

December 31st, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Casual, Chic, Fashion, Looks

I know this is a sort of random “middle of the night” post - but I’ve been flipping through the collection of magazines that’s been sitting at my desk for the past few days waiting to be read and I suddenly felt inspired.  Anyone who knows me is fully aware that I love Victoria Beckham.  Say what you will, but that woman is fierce.  This random outfit is a simple interpretation of what she can be seen wearing on the cover of Elle Magazine’s current issue:

I think it’s fairly easy to say that putting this outfit together took little to no time at all.  I started out with TESLA’s Natasha heel and sort of built my way up from there.  Since the shoes she’s wearing cannot be seen in the cover picture, I took it upon myself to go for a pointed toe basic pump in white; though any color would have suited it just as well.  To create the illusion of the off the shoulder tank from the picture, I’ve layered two separate tops (Camie Cooper’s and Nyte Caligari’s) and paired them with a basic pleated white suit pant and topped it all off with a pair of basic black suspenders.  Of course the look would also not be complete without that signature Victoria Beckham bob, either.

Winter Holiday

December 30th, 2007 | Category: Beachware, Casual, Chic, Fashion, Looks, Sexy

All this winter inspired stuff is starting to make me nauseous.  Today, we’re heading to the pool.

During the holiday season or even just the winter in general, thousands of people will flock to their favorite warm vacation spots to get away from the blistering cold and all that gross white stuff that covers the ground making it difficult to get to school and work every day.  Today’s outfit is inspired by every-one’s favorite resort vacation - you know, the one where there’s a bar in the pool and everything is all inclusive.  Yes, please:

What?  Another strapless mini?  Yes.  What I actually started today’s outfit with was the plain white flip flops.  They had been sitting in my inventory for over a year, and I don’t think I’ve used them more than two or three times, but today when I was searching for the right “tropical” sim to loiter in, they seemed appropriate.  I continued from there by throwing on my favorite bikini (Cyrene from LAST CALL*) and that super cute pair of bug-eye sunglasses.  After sitting in my lounge chair for a while, however - I decided that the outfit needed something a bit more to give it a bit of umph -something one might wear over their swimsuit when they are sitting at the bar sipping cocktails at mid-day.  My inspiration for the mini-dress was actually that terrycloth Juicy Couture dress that was really popular a few years ago (that I got so sick of wearing and seeing) - I started out in the same way that I did the last mini; with the Armidi tank bottom, and I paired it with the strapless top in a matching color from LAST CALL.  Finally I accessorized with that little Pochette from ETD - perfect to fit your little bottle of tanning oil, SPF, a tube of lip-gloss (not while you lay out, please), and those few extra dollars for tipping that super cute guy behind the bar that’s mixing your Pina Coladas.

Fields of Gold

December 29th, 2007 | Category: Boho, Casual, Cute, Daytime, Fashion, Looks

I am definitely a very situational person when it comes to my choice of dress in Second Life.  One minute I can be dressed in my 80’s gear for a music event and then the next I can be boho-ed out for a stroll through one of my favorite sims.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to explore any of the 4 Avaria sims, perhaps now is a good time.  Today’s outfit is just one that I put together while walking through the fields of desert and grass while taking pictures:

Like I said, my inspiration for this outfit wasn’t necessarily a mood but rather a scenario.  What I actually started out with was the skirt.  Perhaps one of my favorite items from Miko Omegamu, the colors in the skirt are blended so well and the lacey overlay provides a gorgeous texture and contrast.  Although you can’t tell in the images, the skirt also moves wonderfully.  Given the warmer climate of the Avaria sims, I chose to pair the skirt with a simple wife-beater style tank and a good pair of wedged boots - which less-so serve as something practical, but provide that great extra lift every girl needs for those extra few inches.  The obvious choice of accessories for this outfit were all of Lucas Lameth’s boho inspired pieces released earlier this year; the rich wooden tones echoed those seen around the sim at the time I was exploring, and they balance out the weight of the skirt quite nicely.  I’ve finished off this look with a very basic face with little to no makeup, and an effortless braid which hangs loosely over the shoulder.

Retrology

December 28th, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Cute, Fashion, Funky, Girlie, Glam, Looks, Retro, Sexy

Music has always been a muse for me in my everyday life - I am constantly inspired by different artist’s lyrics and more importantly, their style in dress (to anyone who caught my shout-out to Kelis in the last entry, good work). Today’s outfit is completely and entirely inspired by an outfit that can be seen in Leona Lewis’ video for Bleeding Love; I can take no credit what-so-ever in it’s conception, however I have been inspired to create this outfit based one seen in the video:

Sofia “Retrology” Side ViewSofia “Retrology” Front View

Anyone who is familiar with Dolce and Gabbana should know they have been pushing their metallic corseted belts onto any celebrity daring enough to wear them (see: Beyonce, Victoria Beckham, Leona Lewis, etc.).  Luckily for Second Lifers, Starley Thereian has brought her own version into Second Life. (Warning:  Belt may need to be adjusted to suit your avatars shape best.)  My desire to see how and where this belt may work in my inventory is what prompted me to create this look.  I’ve paired the belt with a simple strapless mini-dress and added the vintage inspired leggings to give the outfit a much needed pop.  To add some weight to my bottom half, I have decided to wear an ultra chunky wedge, which I feel fits the look perfectly.  Finished off with shell earrings and a simple over-the-shoulder pony this outfit balances retro and modern to create a look that is strong and sexy at the same time without being offensive or cliche.

Funky Fresh

December 27th, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Daytime, Fashion, Funky, Looks, Punk-Chic, Urban

Does anyone remember their first encounters with the world of “fashion” in Second Life?  I sure as hell do.  An image on the Second Life website under the “Fashion” tab (which was actually there until recently when they removed those helpful little tabs).  It was a scrolling picture of a gorgeous knock-kneed model sporting a pair of funky knee-high square-toed boots wearing a fringed mini-skirt and a corseted top.  My first thought was “I want to look like her!” - and I made that my mission.

Long story short - it wasn’t before long that I learned that the maker of those boots that I admired so was Fallingwater Cellador of Shiny Things; the boots at that time weren’t for sale - so my dreams of construction that outfit for myself were put on the back-burner.  But it wasn’t until I truly discovered the possibilities of fashion in Second Life that I decided that style was simply not for me anyway.  However, keeping the excitement of those newbie moments in mind; today’s outfit is inspired by that very outfit somewhat altered to suit my own style:

Sofia “Funky Fresh” Front ViewSofia “Funky Fresh” Side View

My first inclination at possibly putting this outfit together came when Fallingwater recently released a sculptie remake of her famous boots.  I seem to have developed a fetish for riding boots (along with a majority of the female population), and these boots - although not technically riding boots - quenched my desires for a pair in Second Life.  The second thing that perhaps was what set the ball rolling in reality was Kyoot Army’s new Naga Skirt; which fills the void of the old fringe PixelDolls skirt from the original image quite nicely;  the snakeskin texture and shredded prims are the perfect balance of funky and sexy, without being too short or too revealing.  Instead of a corseted top, I opted for a long sleeved plain jersey top in a grayish brown and coupled it with a short length scarf in with a plaid pattern in muted tones.  Finally, I accessorized with an overzied satchel ala Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen and styled my hair in a disheveled, highly textured side-pony to create a look that is both funky …. and fresh.

Business as Usual

December 26th, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Daytime, Fashion, Looks, My Style, On the Job, Versatility

The holiday is over (but New Years is just around the corner!), and for many people that means it’s time to return to work.  I know it’s nothing we enjoy people, but it’s a fact of life - especially if you want to buy those Lindens and be fabulous in Second Life.  Today’s outfit is a dedication to all those who are going to be enjoying the pleasures of rush hour traffic today in order to sit at their office desk and wonder why they aren’t working off yesterday’s meal:

Sofia “Business as Usual” Side ViewSofia “Business as Usual” Front View

I know that Milla has mixed and match almost every outfit that she’s ever worn on this blog - and I’ve tried to do that thus far; but sometimes things are just not meant to be tampered with because they are just too perfect the way they are.  Besides, who is fussing with mixing and matching the day after Christmas anyway?  I’m not - I’m probably still suffering from a mild case of food coma.

I started this outfit off … with the whole outfit.  Actually a men’s outfit, but it works so well for women and it’s actually one of my favorite pieces from any of the Paper Couture lines - I couldn’t resist.  Besides, nothing screams “I’m a boss” like a sexy pant suit in the office.  To give the look a bit of a feminine touch I’ve added a gold chain necklace with over-sized beads and Paper Couture’s famous Bumble Bee Ring.  I seem to be stuck on red, perhaps a sentiment left over from the holiday - but I’ve also opted for sexy red lips and matching nails.  Finally, I’ve accessorized with a very simple pair of thick framed black glasses ala Prada; which have been hugely popular for the past few years and provide a just-right level of sophistication.

Midnight Mass

December 24th, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Chic, Fashion, Looks, Nighttime

Happy Christmas Eve! (is that even a holiday?)  I’m hoping that everyone can take today’s post with a tinge of humor, because it is not meant to be taken entirely serious.

For anyone who grew up as a “part-time” catholic, like I did - you’d know why I’m centering my outfit today around an event that happens at midnight on Christmas Eve.  Mass doesn’t just have to be for old people and bible thumpers, oh no.  Midnight Mass is and has always been for young people and families with young people more than just a gathering at church to rejoice in the birth of Christ;  It’s an opportunity to get yourself all gussied up in your fanciest conservative-wear and to walk the catwalk down the center aisle of your church and show all those kids you went to High School with (or maybe still go to High School with) just how nice you clean up.  Which brings us to today’s outfit:

Sofia “Midnight Mass” Side ViewSofia “Midnight Mass” Front View

All kidding aside, tonight is a night for all of you who observe Christmas as a holiday to rejoice in the birth of Christ; and you can’t do it in any old outfit; you throw on your Sunday’s Best and you head to church with the masses.

I started this outfit off with the Francia Woven Coat from Armidi because these trench and military style coats have been really hot this year, and I really think that Nicole David has done a wonderful job in creating an elegant and classy piece.  With all of the sculpted attachements that come with it however, it’s quite difficult to accessorize - but with an overcoat you really don’t need to; that’s the best part.  I’ve pulled together the outfit really simply with a pair of basic red pumps and a matching red headband and nailpolish.  I have also accessorized with a pair of classic pearl earrings and basic diamond ring.  Finished off with simple and light makeup and delicate curls to create a look that is both simple and classy to get you through mass without any wandering eyes looking at the wrong things when they shouldnt be.

5th Avenue

December 23rd, 2007 | Category: Attitude, Chic, Fashion, Glam, Looks, On the Job

Alright, so I mentioned in my last post that I would be bringing the spirit of Christmas into my next few posts in order to observe the holiday.  If anyone has been watching the news, they have reported that nearly 30% of Christmas shoppers in the U.S. did not even starttheir Christmas shopping until yesterday.  Today’s outfit is entirely inspired by every Manhattanite’s favorite 5th Avenue shopper; all my New Yorkers out there know exactly which ones I’m talking about.  The ones that own the street, and strut their stuff up and down it while they spend loads and loads of cash:

Sofia “5th Avenue Betch” Front ViewSofia “5th Avenue Betch” Back View

Now, this is an outfit that some of the people who know me out there may already be familiar with.  It’s quite possibly one of my absolute faves, and since I almost always am asked where these glasses are from, I figured now would be a good time to throw everyone a bone in the spirit of Christmas.  Anyway, it seems that the starting point for this outfit was the top half of Alla Ruff of Veschi’s “Muffin Top” dress; from the moment I saw it I thought it was such an original idea and I knew I just had to fuss with it to see how it might work with other items in my inventory.  To balance out all the business going on up top, I’ve decided to pair it with this sleek and sexy pencil skirt and tied the two together with an over-sized belt.  Normally open-toed shoes are not acceptable for the winter, but when used in conjunction with a nice pair of complimentary tights, I don’t see anything wrong with showing off you’re new pedicure.  To bring the whole look together I’ve accessorized with extra long leather gloves, a bow-tie scarf, and some truly eccentric jewelry and sunglasses.
