YSL “Elle” Launch Party

Here then, is my account of last night’s perfume launch “Elle” by YSL.

I definitely had a pleasant time, we were treated to a presentation including a speech and a rather cool promo video. I liked the build of the sim, all in bold fuchsia to reflect the design of the bottle. Residents can explore the sim for the next 3 months after which it will close. During the time it stays open it will be dedicated to art, which YSL staff were keen to stress was something they were focusing on as sponsors of FIAC. Residents can submit artwork for exhibition through e-mail to laurent@andreamedia.com.

As SL residents, we judge the success of RL launches in-world by how much we can connect and interact with the brand/sim. I think the focus on artwork is a great idea (at least they did not launch another beauty contest!), however, I felt the presentation lacked focus on the very thing that could potentially attract the most traffic, i.e. the resident created artwork exhibition. I would liked to have seen clear rules and procedures and most definitely a way of submitting one’s piece in-world. Perhaps this will all be forthcoming. Also, there were no goodie bags! I would have loved a virtual bottle to grace my equally virtual make-up table. :)

What about the actual fragrance? Well, as promised I popped in to my local make-up store and I’ve been sniffing it on my skin for a couple of hours now and I’m very happy to say I love it! I find the fragrance to be very feminine, luxurious and sensual. I had already decided that Armani Code was going to be my Autumn perfume, but now I’m going to have to add Elle to my selection.

Tenshi has also a post of the event over on Shopping Cart Disco.

Edit (04Oct2007): Here is a link to an article in the SLNN with some more info.
