Red Rock
It’s Friday and party time! Here is a red hot, rock-chic look to get you going.
The super sexy, red little number does everything for this look — I opted for metallic leggings underneath, but if you want to crank up the sexy; leave them off. Take a look at my slingbacks, aren’t they fabulous! I found this little shop full of gorgeous sculptie shoes completely by accident. It’s called Stiletto Moody shoes (SLurl) and has officially not yet opened, but if you join the group (Stiletto Moody Shoes) you will be notified once they do, and you will get an opportunity to buy all the shoes at 50% discount for 1 day. I really recommend you join the group for the discount alone, as they are planning on setting the price per pair at a whopping L$900.
I love this new rocky hair from Armidi!
Please see In-World Locations for SLurls and map coordinates.

Even at 1/2 price ($450L), I find that price far too steep considering the fabulous sculptie shoe talents of designers such as Onyx, Tesla, Fally and Lyra, etc. among others who charge less for great quality. The shoes look very nice but I wouldn’t pay $900 for them.
Great outfit again, woman!

Gillian, I’m glad you said that – I was thinking exactly the same thing, L$450 is already pushing it and L$900 will definitely price me out of that shop. While the shoes are gorgeous indeed (to die for even), they are not superior to the beautiful work of the designers you mention.
I wrote a notecard to the designers asking about it and I hope to hear back from them soon.

LOVE that hair, and yeah the shoes rock but jeeeze $900L?? someone is being a touch tooo greedy, though I did pay that for boots from MINX once, and they weren’t anywhere near as nice as these, but I was a noob so it doesn’t count

I think I had the same love-at-first sight reaction that you and many other people did when I saw those shoes, but I have to echo Gillian. The first thing I do when I read a higher price is compare the item to its competitors – and Tesla, Fallingwater, and the new Armidi shoes are definitely their equals. I hope the designers consider your feedback, because it would be a shame to alienate customers.
PS–You make that dress look even better somehow.

Rockin’ cute outfit. All I can say about the shoes is that clearly there is some serious lack of market research going on with the designers. Sure, every content creator wants to recoup their investment in time and uploads. But it’s better to sell 3000 pairs at L$350 than 1000 pairs at L$900. Not to mention that if they charge nearly three times as much as the average market price, their customer is expecting three times the quality. If they can’t deliver that, they’ve ruined their chances for repeat business.
October 27th, 2007 at 02:44
Phew! I won’t repeat what everybody else has mentioned, I’m just glad I wasn’t being a cheapskate about it.
The outfit is to die for, great job!

Oooo I saw this in the Armidi advertisement but wondered how it would look on. GORGEOUS
The hair is a perfect match. I LOVE the shoes

Freaking heck those shoes are expensive…no way would i pay that amount even if they had a whole ao attached including poses (ok maybe i would if it had that
) They aren’t gonna get ANY takers on this if they keep it at that price or if they do very few…… and I am a huge contributer to the sl economy, but won’t help them with my Ls
Great outfit, perfectly put together!

I completely agree about the price of shoes . . . these are quite reminiscent of some of the great SL shoes that go for less than half the price. Add enkythings for exquisite detail to shiny things, et al, and why look further. Even the beautiful wedding shoes from Adam and Eve are only $300L.
Love this blog!!!

Way too much to pay! I actually went over to look & they’re really nice but these are crazy prices, even with a temp promo discount. There are just too many VERY talented & established designers making amazing stuff at less painful prices already.
This makes me quite cross, noticing more & more how this ‘it has to be expensive or I won’t even look at it’ RL mentality is creeping into SL.
There’s already Redgrave charging astronomical amounts for pairs of jeans!

First disclaimer: I, as a part of Danard Laboratories, advise Stiletto Moody on technical, marketing, and other matters. Thus you might take my post with a grain of salt, if you so wish, but the things I am going to talk about are quite clear, and quantifiable.
Several of you mention that the prices of the Stiletto Moody shoes are ridiculously high. While this is, obviously, personal judgment dictated by the generosity of one’s pocket, let me point out *why* the prices are as they are.
First of all, it is quality. The textures and the sculpting in those shoes pushes what SL is capable of right now, to and beyond the limit. No matter how close you zoom on them, the quality stands to scrutiny. I am myself quite a picky buyer, and no shoes have so far stood up to my standards fully – I just wore the best I found. Now I wear Stiletto Moody, and it is not because I am in any way obliged to. I am not.
Second, it is the scripts. Those shoes include a walk, professionally made sounds by *professional* sound designer that don’t induce headaches upon hearing. The heel clicks include a myraid of options – sound volume and speed can be adjusted to meet your taste perfectly. And they are two different sets of sounds, for two different surfaces – wood and stone. And then it is the bling. Frankly, most bling execution in Second Life is, well… cheap. The bling looks and behaves obnoxiously, starting from the default bling on, and the fact you have to say ‘bling off’ in channel 0 to remove the damn thing. Just have a look at the Stiletto Moody execution there. I will say no more.
Ah, and then it is the menu. The option to click on the left shoe and control your shoe from a menu is nothing short of beautiful. I wish every shoe designer in SL would do that.
And lastly, there is customer service. Stiletto Moody shoes is all about the customer, and for the price payed you don’t get only the shoe – you get lifetime updates of the shoe, you get your shoe back, if you ever accidentally lose it, and all this is in the system, without needs to message anybody, and go through hoops to prove your purchase.
But I agree, those shoes are not really everyone’s cup of tea. So, if you don’t like it, you are free to do so. To each her own…

Hi Irene. Thank you for posting here and for providing an insight into the reasoning behind the high prices (I had not been successful in obtaining that information from the Stiletto Moody camp before).
First of all, I completely agree with the fact that designers have the right to do what they like with their own businesses – no argument there. However, as customers we do have an opinion and we like to think that the designers at least care enough to be aware of that.
I want to make an important distinction here: I’m not talking about being too poor to buy these shoes (which indeed is nothing a designer should have to be concerned about), I am talking about value for money, and I think that is what commentators on this post are also getting at.
The quality of Stiletto Moody shoes was never in question, at least not for me, they are gorgeous, executed to a very high standard and very original in their design. However, I have to say there are other equally good shoes on the market (Maitreya, Shiny Things and Storm Schmooz come immediately to mind), and I’m sure more are coming as sculpties open up the doors for creativity.
As for the scripting of the shoes, without wanting to sound glib, I really don’t need scripting in my shoes — I don’t care for bling nor clicking sounds. This is of course my own preference, but I think my view represents many a fashionista in SL. Perhaps a non-scripted less expensive version could be something to offer?
Having said that, the script that automatically replaces prims eaten by the grid sounds like a fabulous invention and I would welcome it with open arms – however, one could argue that the feature helps the designer with customer service as much as the customer herself (and it would then not be fair to put the burden of cost on the customer alone).
And finally, customer service; while I applaud the customer oriented approach by Stiletto Moody, they are again by no means the only ones to do so. In fact, I dare say that I have very rarely encountered bad customer service on the grid.
I wanted to finish my argument by saying that the only reason I care or even have an opinion in this matter is that I love the shoes! I want to be able to buy them and I want to be able to include Stiletto Moody in my very frequent shopping sprees, however, with today’s pricing that is completely out of the question.

Dear Milla,
I do not wish to engage in a discussion or comparisons over value and quality of the product of other designers, that is both really not professional, and not anything relevant in my opinion. Many of those you mentioned are designers I highly respect, and whose work I own – I totally adore my Armidi hair, for example. But in terms of shoe designs and execution, I believe the quality of shapes and textures Stiletto Moody offers speaks for itself, and I will let it do that. Other than that, everyone is free to decide for themselves what they want to wear, after all, and what designers they like.
But I do want to give you, hopefully, one item of good news that might brighten your, apparently, financially gloomy fashionista moods – the idea of offering cheaper, non-scripted Stiletto Moody shoes has always been a part of the strategy of SM. They will be offered, soon enough.
As for not having encountered bad customer service on the grid… I can only say I sincerely envy your luck. And hope it will continue, at least for you.
Finally, I am glad you like the SM shoes, and I hope that the new products that are soon to be released are going to excite your fashion-imagination even more!
Have fun shopping!
Irene

“Several of you mention that the prices of the Stiletto Moody shoes are ridiculously high. While this is, obviously, personal judgment dictated by the generosity of one’s pocket…”
Pardon me?
I am not sure which is worse, if the condenscension in that statement were intentional or accidental.
I can only hope the owner of Siletto Moody finds better advisors in the near future.

These are incredibly presumptive and condescending statements. Surprising for someone who claims an “advisory” role with the shoe designer in question but also quite telling given the fact that even a limited amount of market research would have told you that the vast majority of fashionable avatars in Second Life do not wish their shoes to bling, click, or clack.
I would advise said designer to seek counsel elsewhere before further damage is done by alienating the very people who both potentially purchase and promote the shoes.
“Stiletto Moody shoes is all about the customer…” Irene Reinard
Are you sure about that? I don’t get that impression based on your comments here. I am quite certain that I am not the only one.

I have to agree with my commenters, this attitude is leaving a very unfortunate bad taste in my mouth.
November 21st, 2007 at 15:50
Me too. I haven’t even gone to look and now I certainly won’t If I showed that attitude to our customers at ETD Elika would fire me in a nano-second.

Hi all
Truth is i have been so hard at work in the studio and only just now as the dust settles from our launch am i able to come and meet all of you and chat to you about what we are doing and how we are doing it.
Above all , I love the right shoe, the shoe that defines a style and an attitude. When i went out to start the brand i wanted to create something for me, something i just couldn’t find in SL. I wanted it to fresh and reflect current desires. I only do sculpted shoes as only this can produce the result we all want. But this is no mean feat, and comes at great price and effort. We wanted our customers to have a quality, fun experience wether in the ease of using our commerce system to the delight of wearing it.
Given the great attention our launch created i simply have paced the level of our deliveries and roll outs to ensure stability and quality. We always knew that the effort that goes into our shoes and customer service wold require a higher price point but what you may not know is that we also intended a more affordable diffsuion line. That plan has not changed. It will be delivered – its just timing and a matter of completing some infrastructure development to allow us to offer them. the SM diffusion line will have all of the desire but without the scripting which some customers prefer – and two distinct price points.
So to all our SM fans, and maybe some of our price detractors…We will deliver something for everyone, and we will strive to push the top end of the fashion offering in style, in quality, and of the moment trends. Our strategy IS broader than the current styles that represent our launch range.
I look forward to meeting those who want to chat about our strategy, at our first Boutique event, which will be announced through the Stiletto Moody Shoes group, and if popular will be held regularly to tell you of our plans, and take onboard your comments…,…and just you wait to see what is in the design studio now!!

Hello Stiletto
Thank you for taking time to write here. I have to say I’m relieved to read such a professional reply from you. I’m very excited to see the diffusion line you mention and will be looking forward to it.

Great reply. Hopefully you’ve enrolled Irene in some tact training too.

Hi Milla, first of all love the blog!!
Love the shoes got a couple from there too, but wouldn’t hurt more affordable prices!!1 every time I get in that store I have to think 10 times before actually buying something. Certainly if they were more affordable I wouldn’t thinker twice!
Concerning the scripts, I could definitely live without bling and click noises!!
Keep the good work

I am a shoe maker miself. A newbie friend teleported me to see “wow, the most expensive shoes in SL!”. I went there and I had lag, the first object revealed after 5 minutes was the price: 6499 or so for boots. As I had lag and I was blind, I had to ask: “What can they do for this price?”. My friend explained to me that “they change colors, they click, they bling and who-knows what more”.
After more 15 minutes I began to see…and now, my friends that gathered there in the meantime, were asking me, as being already fully loaded and their shoe-technician: so? why are they so expensive?
I rised a few times my fingers to type something…anything but “well….well…”. I looked closer…I looked for a demo…I looked at somebody elese that was wearing them…I inspected them in every way I could…and I stood there, untill my ENVY (heavy envy with tears and blushing) finally allowed me to say the obvious truth:
Well..it is because they are THAT beautifull!
So, in my opinion, they are not expensive (they look to me more beautifull than expensive, so my value-for-the-money statement is: GREAT! I can’t afford to buy every one I would like to have, of course. But I could afford to postpone the launch of my boots collection untill I would be much better in Maya and Photoshop. Moody’s Stilettos gave me more than shoes: she gave me free STANDARDS, which are priceless.

Stiletto Moody should be really named Stiletto Greedy.
Not only she has introduced her start of business as a downgrade to any other shoe designer at the time (“I decided to create shoes because I couldn’t find any i liked”) but Irene is trying to point out that as well.
Most dedicated designers have great scripts, sounds, and provide satisfactory customer service. The quality varies but no one has the right to base the price of SM shoes on that and then make it sound as if other designers, selling their products at reasonable prices, don’t provide that.
I was also about to point out the fact it’s funny people are talking about L$800 and L$1000 shoes when the fresh ones available are actually $L2200, but then I realised this post is a bit out-dated. Well, all I can say is keep up the good work Milla.
